RIAMOGIRE ENERGY AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRE (RETEC) is a non-profit, non governmental organization (NGO) registered with the NGO Bureau, Nairobi, Kenya in 2010 under the NGOs Act of 1990. RETEC is committed to sustainable development through initiatives in green technologies promotion, small hydro-generation, solar, bio-gas, biomass renewable energy projects, water & sanitation, and other integrated community outreaches to the most vulnerable and socially excluded groups. We at RETEC are inspired to tackle the root causes of poverty, environmental degradation, and social and economic imbalances and exclusions, by finding and providing practical solutions which, when accepted and translated into positive action, can have the highest potential for social transformation, justice and sustainable development. The roots of RETEC reach back to 2009 when a group of socially sensitive people from the local community, Samson Arika, Robert Moenga and Elizabeth Nyaboke, agreed in consultation with the community to form RETEC with the NGO Bureau Nairobi. It was later registered in 2010. The organization aims at designing and undertaking activities which lead directly to community empowerment by strengthening peoples’ voices and enhancing their capacities at a grassroots level.

RETEC’s mission is to help reconnect communities to the local resources that promote human well-being by enhancing social and economic empowerment, community self-reliance and self-determination. We do this by… Empowering communities to sustain ably access and manage the resources needed to achieve their vision for the future by working directly with communities as allies, providing information, as well as providing training, consultation and networking services to individuals, communities and community organizations locally.
